Entebbe → Murchison Falls → Entebbe
An early departure from Entebbe or Kampala heading north into Uganda's vast interior. The drive to Murchison Falls National Park takes approximately five to six hours — the landscape shifting gradually from the fertile highlands around Kampala to the flat, sun-bleached Albertine Rift savannas of the north.
For those who want to make the most of the drive, an optional stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary lets you track Uganda's only wild northern white rhinos on foot — a genuine highlight in its own right. Arrive at the park in the afternoon with time for a sunset game drive across the Kasenyi plains before dinner at your lodge on the banks of the Nile.
The full Murchison experience in a single day. Rise before dawn for the sunrise game drive across the north bank — the park's finest wildlife terrain. As the sky turns amber, lions are still active on the open savanna. Rothschild's giraffe — one of the world's most endangered — feed at the acacia tops. Elephant herds move toward the Nile. Leopard, buffalo and spotted hyena complete the north bank cast.
After breakfast, board the private launch for the Nile boat cruise upstream to the base of Murchison Falls. The entire volume of the Nile squeezes through a seven-metre gap in the rock before plunging forty metres — the noise, the mist, the sheer physical power of it at water level is extraordinary. Hippos crowd every bend, enormous Nile crocodiles bask on the banks, and waterbirds — pied kingfishers, African fish eagles, goliath herons — line the river throughout.
An optional early morning game drive before breakfast — Murchison's north bank at first light is never the same experience twice. Lions returning from a night hunt, elephant herds moving to the Nile, the golden grass glowing as the sun lifts over the Albertine Rift.
After breakfast, pack up and begin the drive south to Entebbe. Five hours through the Ugandan countryside, lunch somewhere along the route, arriving at Entebbe or Kampala in the early afternoon — in plenty of time for an evening flight. Three days. A complete Murchison experience. Nothing wasted.
Two nights inside Murchison Falls National Park — chosen for direct access to both the north bank game drives and the Nile boat launch.
