After an early breakfast, your private charter flight takes you southwest to the Masai Mara in 45 minutes — a journey that saves hours of road travel and delivers you directly into Africa's most celebrated wildlife landscape. As the plane banks over the reserve, the scale of the Mara opens beneath you: golden savannah to every horizon, the Mara River glinting in the morning light.

Settle into your ultra-luxury tented camp perched 500 metres above the Mara on the Oloololo Escarpment — the very site photographed for Out of Africa. Afternoon game drive through Big Five territory from the moment you arrive.

Cross to Tanzania — Ngorongoro Crater Rim

Ngorongoro, TanzaniaNgorongoro Crater LodgeAll meals

One final morning game drive in the Mara before driving south toward the Kenya–Tanzania border crossing at Isibania. Your guide handles all border formalities with complete efficiency. The landscape barely changes as you cross — the same vast savannah, the same enormous sky — but the knowledge that you are now in Tanzania adds a new dimension to the journey.

Drive east through the Ngorongoro highlands toward the crater rim. As you arrive, the lodge emerges from the highland mist and — 600 metres below — the Ngorongoro Crater reveals itself entire: a volcanic caldera 20 kilometres across, home to 30,000 animals and one of the great spectacles of the natural world. Sundowners on the rim as the caldera fills with evening shadow.

Full Day Inside Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater, TanzaniaNgorongoro Crater LodgeAll meals

Descend into the crater at dawn as mist rises from the floor 600 metres below. The crater is the most biodiverse place on earth for its size — a self-contained world where 30,000 animals live within ancient volcanic walls, with nowhere to go and nowhere to hide. This is the best single location in Africa to see all Big Five in one day, including the critically endangered black rhinoceros.

Lake Magadi turns pink with thousands of flamingos. Maasai herders — permitted to graze within the conservation area — move their cattle with ancient calm. A bush picnic lunch on the crater floor, then an afternoon following the lion prides before ascending back to the rim. After five days of extraordinary safari, tomorrow you reach for the Indian Ocean.

Into the Serengeti

Serengeti NP, TanzaniaSingita GrumetiAll meals

Drive west from Ngorongoro through the ancient highlands and descend into the Serengeti — the moment the trees thin and the plains open is one of the great slow revelations in African travel. The Serengeti supports the largest concentration of large mammals on earth; 1.5 million wildebeest follow an ancient circular route across the ecosystem in pursuit of rain and grass.

Game driving begins immediately on entry. Wildebeest stretch to every horizon; cheetah stalk the open grass; lion prides sprawl under fever trees. Arrive at your ultra-luxury camp in time for sundowners with the plains spread below — the Serengeti in the late afternoon light is something no photograph fully captures.

Serengeti — Full Migration Day

Your last full day on safari — and the Serengeti saves its best. Dawn game drive as the plains turn gold and predators complete the night's hunt. An optional hot air balloon at sunrise drifts above the migration herds ($550pp, champagne breakfast on landing) — the perspective from above, watching wildebeest columns stretching to every horizon, is one of the great experiences in African travel.

Full afternoon following the wildlife at whatever pace feels right. This is the last game drive — let it breathe. Sundowner drinks poured by the vehicle as the Serengeti sun drops below the acacia line. Tomorrow: the Indian Ocean.

Fly to Zanzibar — Indian Ocean Paradise

Zanzibar, TanzaniaThe Residence ZanzibarAll meals

A final morning game drive in the Serengeti before your charter flight to Zanzibar — a 90-minute journey that crosses from the great plains of the African interior to the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. As the plane descends and the coral coast comes into view — white sand, clear water, wooden dhows with triangular sails — the contrast with the dust and drama of the past seven days is total and magnificent.

Check into your beachfront resort — cool marble, the sound of the ocean, a pool suspended above the sea. Afternoon at complete leisure. As the sun sets, take an optional traditional dhow sunset cruise on the Indian Ocean — the sky above Zanzibar at dusk is unlike anything on the African mainland.

Your guide brings seven centuries of Swahili, Arab and Portuguese history to life.
